Each Christmas season people are preoccupied with gift giving and the quest for the gift that's just right. A standard advertising question is—"What do you get for the man or woman who has everything?"
The same thing could be asked about God since He does have everything. Literally! He's the Creator and Sustainer of all things and all life. What could anyone give to God?
It's been said that life happens while making other plans. Interruptions and the unexpected bring completeness, depth, and fullness to our lives.
When these unexpected moments interrupt our life, we may not embrace them because they're difficult. But life is too boring and routine without them. We'd also have no reason to trust God.
How long is forever? When does it start and when does it end? It doesn't. This could be a question from a child but forever is a hard concept to grasp.
Our lives are governed by time, so it's difficult to comprehend eternity. Our life begins at conception, then birth, and ends with our last breath and burial.
It's common to all of us. It's referred to as the darkness of the soul. The expression is linked to a 16th-century poem written by a Spanish monk.
The dark night of the soul is more than depression or a crisis in life. It is related to a crisis of faith that leads to hope and meaning in life.
While in it, it's easy to focus on the darkness itself—a time of spiritual depression—but there's light at the end of the tunnel when we turn our hearts to God.
