Jesus Is the Faithful Son In Charge of God's Household
Jesus > Moses
The Christian faith is not a set of abstract beliefs. A confession of faith is more than words and thoughts written out or spoken. The gospel is the story of how God redeemed humanity from the power and eternal consequence of sin.
The gospel is not a theological treatise. It’s far more than theological truth. It is God’s love declared to the world He created through the life, death, and resurrection of the Son of God.
Genuine Christian faith is anchored in Jesus. Not only what is believed about Him as the Christ, the Messiah, the Savior of the world, but anchored in a relationship with Him. A relationship of trust.
Genuine Christianity is centered on the person of Jesus Christ, not a set of doctrines to be practiced or beliefs to hold. The book of Hebrews makes this very clear through several reminders of the superiority of Jesus in every way and over every being in heaven and earth.
The beginning of Hebrews 3 reminds us how Jesus is greater than Moses—the prominent leader who proclaimed the Old Covenant Law to God’s people.
Scripture Text
Brothers and sisters, you are holy partners in a heavenly calling. So look carefully at Jesus, the apostle and chief priest about whom we make our declaration of faith.
Jesus is faithful to God, who appointed him, in the same way that Moses was faithful when he served in God’s house. Jesus deserves more praise than Moses in the same way that the builder of a house is praised more than the house. After all, every house has a builder, but the builder of everything is God.
Moses was a faithful servant in God’s household. He told the people what God would say in the future. But Christ is a faithful son in charge of God’s household. We are his household if we continue to have courage and to be proud of the confidence we have. (Hebrews 3:1-6 GW)
[Context– Hebrews 3]

Things to Consider—
Moses was the focal point of the Old Covenant Law and Israel’s relationship with God. But Moses, the renowned leader of Israel, was a servant of God. And because of pride and anger, he wasn’t able to lead God’s people into their promised land (Numbers 20:7-13; 27:12-14).
Jesus is the only Son of God—equal in nature to His Father. He's the Creator and builder of the universe and the church (Col 1:15-20). Because Jesus is God’s Only Son, He is greater than God’s servant, Moses.
The church isn't an institution governed by spiritual leaders, but a community of believers whose common focus of worship and trust is Jesus. Faith—true, authentic faith—is an active, relational trust in Jesus. It's a confident, living hope in Him that brings internal, spiritual transformation to our lives.
Jesus—who He is and His work of redemption—is our confession of faith. Simple. Personal. Essential. Anything more, or less, is mere man-made religion. Jesus is our Anchor of faith (Hebrews 6:19-20).
There is an important reminder and exhortation in verse 6 that bears our strong consideration—
And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. (Hebrews 3:6 NIV)
Christian believers remain part of the Lord’s household—His family—as we hold on to our confidence in Him. But how do we do this daily and in practical ways? Being faithful to God requires trust—confidence in Him.
This is where our faith—our trust—in Jesus becomes real. Circumstances in life, relationships with people, and our internal struggles will challenge our trust in Jesus.
So, we need to work out how we trust in Jesus daily. Then our hope and confidence in Jesus will remain strong.
