The wise of heart is called discerning,
and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.
Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
A dishonest man spreads strife,
and a whisperer separates close friends.
Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. (Proverbs 16:21, 24, 28, 32 ESV)
If the eye is the window to the soul, then the mouth might be the door. Jesus said there’s a direct connection between the mouth and the heart (Mt 12:34). We need to watch what comes out of our mouth, as well as guard our heart.
