The need to worship is built into us. We will worship something or someone, even if it's only ourself.
In American culture, worship takes on various forms. Perhaps most obvious is the way we exalt entertainers and athletes. One of the most popular realty-entertainment shows is American Idol. That pretty well sums it up. It expresses a form of worship where a person with a special talent is glamorized and treated as if they were more than human.
Exaltation of a person this way reveals something about us humans. We're looking for someone greater than ourselves. (Continue reading)
